Ten FREE and EASY things you can do to save energy today!

This is mostly from the Smart Energy Living Magazine Online. A few things I don't agree with since this magazine is from Colorado, so I've made a few changes.
  1. Wash your clothes in cold water. Heating up water to do laundry takes up a lot of energy and doesn't make your clothes cleaner.
  2. Use a microwave or crock pot instead of the oven, or just cook larger meals in the oven and save the leftovers for the next nights.
  3. In the summer you should shut your drapes and window coverings during the day to keep cold air in, and open your windows at night to gt some fresh air.
  4. Turn the thermostat off at night. Use blankets to keep warm, and open windows to stay cool.
  5. Turn off the lights every time you leave a room. This also helps cure lazyness :-).
  6. Plug electronics into a power strip and turn it off when not using it.
  7. One day a week find another way to get to work besides driving alone in your car. Carpool!
  8. Carpool with friends when you go one outings. It's more fun that way too!
  9. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, then drive at a steady speed.
  10. Turn down the temperature of your water heater by 5 degrees. Most people have their's set to high anyways.
Hope you try at least on of these out this week, and have a good "green" Monday!

Great tips! We try to not just turn off, but unplug all electronics at night...which can also help cut the electromagnetic stress in the bedroom and help you sleep better at night! ;)
