Green Fish Blender?

The World largest tidal turbine is being tested off shore in Northern Ireland. You can read about it here: . The article states that tidal electrical generation is still fairly untested. It has always seemed to me that the ocean would be the perfect place to get free (or near free) energy. But even though there is a never ending supply of potential (same as solar and wind power) there are apparently cost/efficiency issues. None the less, it seems to me that with all the geniuses and new technology that exists out there, that there should be an environmentally friendly way to harness unlimited power from tidal currents. Of course we also have to consider there are always those extreme environmental organizations that lobby to halt anything that might disturb the natural habitat, and that of course is also a factor in the construction of these types of devices.

One of the extra comments at the end of the article mentions that the blades of the turbine might be dangerous to fish…a “green fish blender”?

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading this, "looks like a large fish blender." They would have to put some kind of nets or something around them? I'm not sure how that would work. It's good to know were trying to find free electricity where we can. Seems like there is always a catch though.

I believe there was also an issue with windmills...birds were flying into them.
